3 a.m. & Trying to be Interesting

The surefire way to become an interesting person, as Russel Davies wrote in his blog, is simply to be interested in everything and everyone. People will find you interesting once they notice that you have this knack for seeing what can be interesting in something as trivial as, say, the soil (what rich, lovely soil!) or a falling leaf (what a dramatic motion!), or in someone as overly ordinarily normal (hmm, like someone I know very, very well!).

I believe that all of us have got something interesting within us — a part of our personality, a story, a behavior, a habit… It shows in most of the blogs I have read thus far. And it's amazing. Most of us just don't see it. If only all of us do, or at least let those who are unaware KNOW the things that make them interesting, then there will be less self-proclaimed bores on the surface of this absolutely interesting planet. I used to be one. In fact, I still am struggling. There just came a point when I started telling myself: LIFE IS SHORT. And the world can/will go on without me. So I just might as well be part of the lively, interesting world. And live the rest of my life sharing what I can. (Very much like what my Dad did. Miss you Daddy!)

Interesting people are good at sharing. You can’t be interested in someone who won’t tell you anything. Being good at sharing is not the same as talking and talking and talking. It means you share your ideas, you let people play with them and you’re good at talking about them without having to talk about yourself.

Well, if I say right now that "Hmmm, these receipts are giving me some sort of a code, the pattern of numbers is sending me a message!" –  would you think I'm an interesting person? Haha, silly, obviously you'd think of me as some lunatic… But on second thought, if that happens to be real, it would be quite interesting, right?

Imagination is also interesting. Look at all those fantasy movies, some of which are even remarkably dumb, people actually buy their stories!

Okay. So why be interesting?

1. So that you'll draw people to you like paperclips to a magnet
2. So that people will frequent your blog as though you have a dropdead huge sale announcement every posting day
3. So that you won't feel like morphing into an ant during social affairs (I chose an ant so that at least you still get to eat )
4. So that people will desperately Google you up
5. So that you will be the topic/center of conversations
6. So that people will never have an icy moment with you around
7. So that you don't get that sickening cold shoulder

But for me, I think the ultimate and the most beautiful purpose of being an interesting person is that it becomes a tremendous opportunity for you to become an inspiration for other people. They come to you, listen to you, read you, to learn something new and good — even from your mistakes.

This used to be my dream for my blog — to be interesting enough to the point where passersby can learn even just an eency-weency-tiny bit of a nugget of something. Sadly, rants got in the way, hehe. And sadly, I often post entries during the most unholy hours of the day night. But as I said, this is a struggle. For one, I don't have many readers, I don't have those Technorati ranks or whatsoever, I have not one idea if I have Feeds subscriptions, those kinds of stuff, but I'll just keep writing when I can, while I can. So to you who came to pass by, to you who have linked me up, I'm already more than thankful and glad!

I might cover the 2007 Phil. Blog Awards come March 31 for our paper (aaahhhhhh). I wonder who among these faceless people I have somehow come to know in the blogosphere will I see there, body and soul? Haha, that will be really exciting! Ciao!
